Safety is the “supreme goal” at Merck: Care is taken to exclude both potential technical and human sources of error as far
as possible by means of intensive training and a large number of technical and organizational measures.
Occupational health and safety are declared corporate objectives.
In addition, Merck has a
fire protection department at the Darmstadt site with more than 140 specialists professionally trained in the areas of fire, site and environmental
protection.
The site also has a
Neighborhood Information System (NIS) in place to provide direct information and to alert the local community in the event of an incident.
The goal of reducing
CO2 emissions by 10%, compared to 2002, by 2010 has already been achieved for the Merck sites. The Darmstadt site makes an important contribution
here.

wastewater emissions.
